Cognition LLP , an innovative virtual law firm specializing in providing affordable and business-focused in-house counsel and corporate legal services for startup and growth businesses. Pre-book a special, complimentary mini-consultation with Joe Milstone or Rubsun Ho, the founding partners of Coginition LLP – available for signup in the delegate area on Wednesday. Rubson Ho, Co-founder, Cognition LLP
| Rubsun HoRubsun Ho co-founded Cognition LLP upon recognizing that the existing
legal marketplace did not service startup and growth businesses well,
notwithstanding their significant needs for practical and affordable
legal advice. Prior to co-founding Cognition, Rubsun acted in various
capacities with Wysdom Inc., a wireless Internet startup based in
Toronto, where Rubsun joined on as employee number ten. While at
Wysdom, Rubsun acted as VP Business Development and as General Counsel,
helping the company raise over US$60 million in financing and procuring
and finalizing marketing and distribution agreements with various
telecom and Internet entities. Rubsun has since leveraged those
experiences and contacts at Cognition, assisting several technology
ventures in starting up, raising capital and financing, and optimizing
their commercial agreements, contacts and negotiations. Before
Wysdom, Rubsun was a corporate and securities associate in the Toronto
and New York offices of Stikeman Elliott, where he worked on a number
of public and private financings and M&A transactions. Rubsun holds
a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto (1995) and a Bachelor
of Commerce (Finance) from McGill University (1992), and lives in
Toronto with his wife, two children and lop eared rabbit.
| Joe Milstone, Co-founder, Cognition LLP
| Joe MilstoneJoe Milstone is co-founder of Cognition LLP, an innovative legal
services organization that provides flexible and affordable in-house
counsel legal services primarily to startup and growth companies in the
technology and telecommunications sectors who are seeking an
alternative to either hiring full-time counsel or using a traditional
law firm. Through Cognition, Joe has worked extensively on “both
sides” of the mobile space – working with carriers and providers of
mobile bandwidth and services and also game/application developers
either with their own properties or who partner with more traditional
content owners in order to mobilize traditional games/content to bring
them appropriately to market. Joe also regularly works with companies
that sell various value-added services and content, including gaming
properties, into the traditional carriers for distribution. Prior to
Cognition, Joe served in the capacity of Vice-President, Legal and
Business Services at both Magna Entertainment Corp., North America’s
leading horse racing entertainment, wagering and gaming provider, and
Call-Net Enterprises Inc. (Sprint Canada Inc.), then Canada’s leading
alternative telecommunications provider. Joe also worked for a number
of years in the financial services industry after having begun his
working career at the law firm of Osler Hoskin and Harcourt. Joe holds
a joint LL.B/M.B.A. degree from Osgoode Hall/Schulich School of
Business, and in his “spare time”, is a dedicated father, football fan,
entrepreneur, volunteer and supporter of cultural adaptation for
immigrants to Canada. |
